Process

1. Take some time to learn about the history of tall tales. You should be able to answer some questions about tall tales before continuing on to the next process. To complete this process open and print this Tall Tale History Worksheet and then click on this Tall Tale History Link to complete the worksheet.

2. Read at least 3 tall tales from the list below and complete an information sheet for each. This means that you will need to print 3 separate information sheets. If you are not sure what metaphor or simile is, click here for a quick lesson.

We are all one~A Chinese Tall Tale

Johnny Appleseed

Pecos Bill

Stormalong

Davy Crockett

Paul Bunyan

3. Create your own tall tale by printing and then filling in this Tall Tale Story Web. Once you have completed to story map, write a short tall tale about your character using this Tall Tale Story Map Template.

4. Now you must pretend you are a reporter for a newspaper and write a news paper article featuring the character you made up. You will be using Microsoft Publisher for this process. Remember that reporter answer the following 5 questions when they write articles:

Who (character's name)

What (what did the character do that was super human or 'larger than life')

When (year, season, time of day)

Where (state, country)

Why (why did your character do what he/she did)

How (how did your character solve the problem)

You may also want to include that because your character did what he/she did there was a postage stamp made in their honor.

5. Using Microsoft Paint create a postage stamp that represents your character.
